Pad Serger - 2nd Shift


SUMMARY


Operates machine that binds edges of mattress pad and skirt with serging stitch to reinforce edges, prevent raveling, or give finished appearance by performing the following duties. Associate is responsible for ensuring the quality of their work as defined by Hollander quality standards.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES?include the following. Other duties may be assigned.




  • Places spool of thread on spindle and draws thread through guides, tensions, and eye of needles and loopers.


  • ?Ensure law labels, skirt, box stickers and mattress pad stack coordinate according to specifications.


  • Lift rolls of skirt from skirt rack and place on skirt bar under serging table.


  • Pulls mattress pad onto serging table and into feeding position.


  • Positions mattress pad and skirt, following trim allowance specifications.


  • Presses pedal with both feet to start machine. Serge perimeter of the pad, adjusting position of pad on the sewing table with left arm/hand, holding pad in the feed position with right hand, and placing law label in appropriate position according to specifications.


  • Align skirt. Using scissors, cut skirt then perform serge off.


  • Places finished mattress pad into take-away conveyor clamp.


  • Observes sewing operation to detect defective stitching, breaks in thread, or machine malfunction.


  • Rethreads machine, replaces defective or broken needles, or notifies Sewing Machine Mechanic of machine malfunction.


  • Maintains a clean work area during the shift. Blows lint out of machine using air hose and sweeps floor around machine at the end of the shift.????


  • Any other duties as assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


No prior experience or training.


LANGUAGE SKILLS


Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS


Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.


REASONING ABILITY


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES


Must score 100 or above on Skil-Sew Assessment. Must maintain a good attendance record. Ability to conduct responsibilities of the job in a courteous and professional manner.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Safety glasses are required when using air hose.



 


Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
